Why are your fees so much lower than the other guys?

Yes, we know we charge way less than other firms. We do this by creating very efficient systems and having an all star team. We cut out the fluff, do not churn out useless reports and get to the heart of the matter: does this candidate fit your position or not. We know that if you hire with us because you like our prices… then you’re going to turn to California Job Shop when your next spot opens up. You are not going to be afraid to use us because we will not gulp up a big chunk of your bottom line.

Who do you have for me, I need a ______________?

What can we tell you, we haven’t yet figured out a way to stock up candidates in bulk like Costco. It’s a tight job market out there. To get things rolling and on the way to filling your job position, we need to do things like they did in the 2000’s…. We need to talk. It will be a quick conversation, and it will be fun (and downright honest). Let’s book an intake conversation today.

What type of jobs do you fill?

It’s probably better for us to describe what we don’t do. We don’t fill jobs that pay less than $15 per hour. We don’t fill temporary positions. Other than that we’ve handled pretty much everything. IT professionals, medical directors, warehouse managers, teachers, administrative assistants, bioinformatics specialists, graphic designers. One memorable client had us fill everyone from the janitor to the COO and is still a current client. To date we have filled over 350 positions for our very first client.

I can’t fill this position and I’ve tried everything?

Here’s what you need to do to find the right people: Drill down deep into what you want accomplished by the person you are hiring. What will they really need to do? What will the real responsibilities be? We can help you with this part. Find out what most people get paid for this position and pay it. If you try to undercut the going rate, you will not get the quality you want. Or you will get a great person who will leave the second a better paying job comes by. Do not skimp on benefits. People will stay with you and work hard to not lose their benefits. It’s worth the investment. How do I get started with California Job Shop? Send an email to Estee@californiajobshop.com. We’ll set up a time to talk and get to the nitty gritty of what you want in a new employee. No holds barred. Get ready for an honest, fun conversation.

Are you an agency?

No, we represent the company for about a month at a time (though many companies renew monthly), and work to fill positions for them. We source great people and interview them and then send anyone who is a good fit for the job over to the company directly for an in person interview. You never work for California Job Shop, you are hired and paid directly by the company.

Candidates/Job Seekers

Do you have a job for me?

There’s a way to find out. We post our latest jobs on this website. You can follow current jobs on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn. The easiest way to keep an eye on open jobs is by checking instagram.com/californiajobshop at least every few days. (Insider tip: if most but not all of your qualifications match the requirements on the post, send us your resume anyway. We might have a similar job for you.)

What types of jobs do you have?

Everything and anything from entry level jobs to executive roles. We fill jobs in nearly every field throughout the United States.

Why submit your resume to us?

First of all, why not. Copy-pasting your resume into an email does not require typing, stamps or regrets. Just a little finger dexterity to hit send is required. And we promise: We will not waste your time. If you get booked for an interview it’s because you are likely a great match for this position.

Can you help me with my resume?

Check out CJS’s Instagram videos. We have covered most of the topics that you need to know to get your resume into shape. Here’s a few tips we’ve learned along the way: The best resumes describe specific accomplishments. If you were a sales rep, it’s not enough to write “responsible for LA county territory” because that says nothing about what you achieved. Instead write “closing rate of 78%” or “upped sales in the division by 56%” Be honest about your educational background. That’s where stretching the truth can bite you. Tailor your resume to the job. Your experience as a dog walker 8 years ago probably can be left off. But fill in the gaps on your resume with relevant experiences. Objective paragraph -- that’s pretty over. Skip it. Not sure what it was for in the first place. Reverse chronological order - put most recent relevant jobs first. Don’t do a skills based resume. It looks sketchy. And that job you held for 2 months and then left because the boss was creep. Leave that off. But no, we do not write resumes for you. You can handle it.

How do I prepare for an interview?

Here’s the mistake job seekers make. They forget it’s an interview. When an interviewer says, “tell me about yourself” they do not want to hear the whole story. An interview is not a therapy session. Your new employer does not want the burden of your sorrows. They do no want to solve your problems. They want to hire someone to solve their problems. The rest of the interview is simple. Before the interview come up with answers to tricky questions like “why did you leave your last job” and “what did you do during the 4-year gap on your resume” in advance. Show up on time. Smile
